Injured Hiker: Williams, Jerrid D, 30 years old, Salem, Oregon
NARRATIVE:
On 04/08/16, at about 3:35pm, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was dispatched to assist Jerrid Williams, who had slipped on the Misery Ridge Trail at Smith Rock State Park. It was reported that Jerrid was about two-thirds of the way up the trail and had possibly broke his ankle.
Eight DCSOSAR volunteers, one DCSOSAR Sergeant, one State Park Ranger and Redmond Fire Department personnel responded to assist Jerrid. Rescuers reached Jerrid at about 3:40pm, stabilized his injury and transported him to the Smith Rock foot bridge via wheeled litter. Jerrid was then released to Redmond Fire Department who transported him via ambulance to St. Charles Hospital in Redmond.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue unit would like to remind those recreating in the outdoors to be prepared for all conditions on the trail. Be prepared with the proper footwear, plenty of water (especially as the weather warms up) to safely travel in all conditions.
